• Taking a different path

This year has been a lot for every single one of us. If you’d said at the start of this year I would be sat typing this, I would have not believed you. However, here I am writing this post. Tomorrow, Friday 11th is my last day at Automattic after 7 years.

It’s been an incredible adventure and I am so very grateful to have experienced each and every moment. When I began my journey I didn’t have any expectations and in that same flow I enter the next chapter without any plans. It’s exciting and thrilling, just as any adventure worth having should be.

This week I was lucky enough to be part of the WordPress 5.6 release cohort, which for the first time was made up completely by those identifying as women and non-binary. The jazz artist to represent the release was Nina Simone and never before has the powerful song ‘Feeling Good’ meant as much as this week for me.

    It’s a new dawn
    It’s a new day
It’s a new life for me, ooh
    And I’m feeling good

I am so thankful for the people, the places and the times I’ve shared. As my role became one of a full time contributor, my journey got to flow along the channels of the community I deeply respect and appreciate. WordPress and open source was part of my experience before joining Automattic and I have a feeling I am not done with that exploration.

Onward to new adventures, with so many happy memories to keep me going along the way. I am going to listen to Nina Simone now on full volumne and highly recommend you also do for your soul. Change can be good and I feel good about this one. I leave with a full heart, deep respect and care for everyone I’ve adventured with. Thank you.
